On a crisp, sunny day this February we took an adventure out to the world’s longest skating trail, the Whiteway located right here in Invermere. In 2014 the Lake Windermere Whiteway was named the world’s longest skating trail by Guinness World Records. At over 30km in length, this multi-use trail offers ice-skating as well as groomed skate and classic cross-country ski trails.
If you don’t have skates or skis, we have the perfect solution for you! Inside Edge offers cross country ski rentals, snowshoes and skate rental; daily, 3 days and weekly.

While there is no longer snow to ski in on the Whiteway, the ice will hopefully stick around for a few more weeks! The Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club does a fantastic job maintaining this beautiful outdoor space all winter long. The club asks for a small donation fee of $5 per use which helps them maintain the trails. If you are a local and plan on using the Whiteway frequently, it would be wise to look into their Whiteway Season Pass.

Parking to access the Whiteway is located at Kinsmen Beach. At the entrance you will often find the firepit burning and Canadian Mountain Experience‘s mobile food truck parked near the hockey and skating rinks. If you are looking for a day of family fun, that is also extremely budget friendly, then a visit to the Whiteway sounds like the perfect day for you!

While we were out and about we had an opportunity to check out Columbia Valley Tour Co.‘s new ice fishing shacks. Columbia Valley Tour Co. is a new adventure company in the valley. Whether you’re looking for a fishing excursion, hiking, camping, or the whole package, they have you covered.

The season may be close to over for the Whiteway, but we highly encourage you to add it to your bucket list for next year!
